![]() ![]() To write his new book, Turn Right At Machu Picchu, author Mark Adams retraced the steps Bingham took on his expedition. But Americans give credit to Hiram Bingham III, who climbed the Andes and saw the remarkable city, surrounded by holy mountains and filled with houses, terraces and temples that with all our modern skills and machines would be impossible to build today. Now, of course, Peruvians say that the city was not discovered a century ago today, because they never lost it. On July 24, 1911, Machu Picchu was found by an American historian, and this weekend many are celebrating the centennial of the "discovery" of the cloud city high in the Andes - one of the most remarkable archeological sites on the planet. ![]() Focused pet and livestock health care innovation was our game, with an investment of more than 80% of the industry’s research and development in pet health care diagnostic and information technology. Steering Idexx through annual revenue increases - from $380 million to $2.4 billion - led to stock price growth from $6 to $480 per share. Along with having to give up to others the daily tasks of self-care taken for granted by most, one of the ultimate sacrifices was my need to abandon a career I loved: an extraordinary 17-year tenure as Idexx Laboratories’ chairman, president and CEO. My sudden disability forced me to make painful and previously inconceivable physical, emotional and social sacrifices. Although I am eternally grateful to have avoided a brain injury (due to my high-tech helmet), there was no denying that my world was forever and catastrophically altered. The accident was a painful lesson in how easily human hubris is dashed by the frailty of our bodies. Two months in, I began to appreciate the severity of my condition - paralysis from the neck down save for limited arm and wrist movement. Neurosurgeons tell you that every spinal cord injury is different, and thus they couldn’t forecast how much body function I would recover or when. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() When I had my cycling accident in June 2019, it wasn’t immediately apparent how much I had lost. ![]() ![]() ![]() Yet there's plenty to not love about the X-Men. ![]() What kid drawn to the world of nerdom doesn't find that easy to identify with? Mutants were not born out of the fears of the atomic era, they were just born and born different. For me, as I'm sure was the same for any generation before or after mine, the X-Men felt so fresh and different from all the other comic book characters out there. At that age, the fact that there were girls i that club was oddly fascinating. This was a bit before the 90's animated show came out, so to know the X-Men, who they were and what they're about, it was like being in a secret club. Who doesn't love the X-Men on some level? When I was in the third grade, I don't think there was anything that seemed cooler to me than the X-Men. However, roughly half of the books in the line for this month will not reach my local comic shop in time for my article, and which ones that have, well.the less said of them, the better. Observant followers of my comic articles here on the Fort will realize that I promised more coverage of Marvel's Point One line this month. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Let's do it, you know? But yeah, I definitely want to start setting up the JLA, and you'll start to see it happen here and there, and at the end of the book. But if I get White Knight to a place where I am setting up a Justice League? One of my ideas was to just hire other writers and artists to do spinoff books of a 'White Knight Justice League.' Hey, I don't know a lot about Green Lantern, but if Pete Tomasi does and wants to write for me? Awesome. I'm not the best candidate to do a lot of the stuff. I'm not as educated on Justice League as I am on Batman. I can't tell you exactly how, but by the end of the book, I think you'll see where it's going. “I have plans to get into some of that, yeah. ![]() In an interview with Screen Rant, Sean Murphy spoke on his plans to integrate the other DC heroes, saying: ![]() The eight-issue limited series, written and illustrated by Sean Murphy, began monthly publication in October 2017 and concluded in May 2018. The story is largely told through the perspectives of three of those friends: Emma, Jules and Katie, with two of the estate’s workers, Heather and Doug, also having their own parts. ![]() The Hunting Party is a classic whodunnit tale following nine university friends reuniting for a weekend away in a first-class retreat in the Scottish Highlands. With its atmospheric setting, a deep arsenal of characters and shocking revelations hiding behind every chapter, it’s no wonder Lucy Foley has become one of the crime fiction world’s most acclaimed authors. Read on for our full The Hunting Party book review at What We Reading. The Hunting Party is one of the most gripping and addictive titles I’ve read this year. But, having picked up and devoured Lucy Foley’s The Hunting Party, that might be about to change. Never personally had much of a disdain for them per se, but they were a bit like a cough drop to me – not offensive, but never found much need for them. I’ve never been much of a ‘ whodunnit’ reader. “Some people, given just the right amount of pressure, taken out of their usual, comfortable environments, don’t need much encouragement at all to become monsters.” ![]() ![]() ![]() Soon it’s not simply a matter of enduring each other’s company, but taming their growing feelings for each other. ![]() But as the two travel deeper into the rugged Californian countryside, secrets and hidden feelings surface. I enjoy blog tours because they bring people together to share and read others thoughts on a particular book, and it almost feels as if we’ve all done one huge buddy read. I do want to thank my amazing friend Tracy who I’ve probably mentioned a thousand times on this blog, as well as the wonderful PR team at Simon and Schuster for giving me this opportunity. I’ve participated in a blog tour before and that post did so so well, and I am so grateful to be able to participate in another one. This book was sent to me from Simon & Schuster in exchange for an honest review and participation in the blog tour for the June 1st release of this novel. ![]() ![]() ![]() Each new encounter leads him closer to confronting his own identity, as he revisits his childhood and probes the secrets that haunt his family.
